Legal Counsel - Commodities Trading

Location: Singapore
Reporting to: Head of Legal (based in China)
Seniority: 5-7 PQE

About the Role

I am partnered with a leading Chinese commodities trading house with global presence. We are seeking a mid-level Legal Counsel to join the Singapore office.

This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of global commodities trading and corporate advisory within a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will work closely with trading, operations, compliance, and external counsel across jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate trading-related contracts, including but not limited to:
  • Master agreements (ISDA, EFET, GTMA, etc.)
  • Physical commodity contracts
  • Brokerage, clearing, and logistics agreements
• Provide legal support for corporate matters, including regulatory, employment, data privacy, and corporate governance issues
• Advise internal stakeholders on legal risk, contract management, and compliance-related queries
• Coordinate with external counsel on cross-border matters and litigation when necessary
• Stay up to date with legal and regulatory developments impacting commodities trading in APAC and globally

Requirements

• Singapore qualified lawyer with 5-7 years of post-qualification experience, with experience from a law firm or in-house at a commodities, trading, or financial services firm
• Experience with trading contracts and commercial agreements
• Exposure to commodities trading, financial derivatives, or shipping/logistics contracts preferred
• Experience handling a broad range of corporate legal and compliance matters
• Able to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams across multiple jurisdictions
• Fluency in Mandarin is essential to liaise with internal stakeholders and review documents in Mandarin
• Must be able to travel frequently
